Is it a mountain lion or isn't it?
Reports that a mountain lion could have taken a pet from a home in The Dominion have prompted an urban biologist with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to investigate the case.
A report was received about 8 p.m. Monday about a wild animal attacking a small dog and taking it from a backyard in the upscale development north of San Antonio.
Jessica Alderson said she was called in to investigate the area and set up a game camera to record movement. She said within two weeks they will review the footage to see if there is any wildlife staying around the area.
Alderson said the owner had let out his two Maltese dogs to play in the backyard Monday evening when the dogs ran to the back of the yard and escaped underneath a black iron fence that surrounds the yard.
The owner went to get the two dogs, but heard only one. When he looked for the other dog, he saw an animal with his dog in its mouth. The owner yelled at the animal, went inside to grab a gun, but the animal ran away with the dog. The armed owner was not able to get a safe shot of what he thought appeared to be a mountain lion.
Alderson said if they find footage of a wild animal around the property, it won't necessarily mean that particular animal attacked the dog.
